What should I expect?

Appointment times are between 30 and 60 minutes dependent on your needs. In order to make the most of your appointment time, we provide you with appointment related information forms via email to complete and return to us in advance of your appointment.

Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended but not necessary. You may be asked to remove some items of clothing to view the areas causing pain and discomfort.

What happens in the appointment will vary depending on your complaint and your personal circumstances, but normally there will be a discussion about why you have booked an appointment. There may be questions arising from your booking forms, and there is always an opportunity for you to ask questions in return. Many people do not know what osteopaths do and it’s really important to us that you feel comfortable throughout your appointment.
The osteopath will then do some examinations which may involve you being asked to do certain movements. This helps us identify problematic areas in your musculoskeletal system. Once the osteopath feels happy to proceed with treatment, they will explain to you what they are doing and why.

As infants and babies are so much smaller and delicate, the examination and treatments are adapted to suit their needs. Sometimes babies will cry in an appointment but this is not normally the case and it is always ok to pause a treatment while babies are settled again.
