The Mother-Infant Dyad
There is a growing body of knowledge around the importance and benefits of supporting the mother-infant dyad as one unit rather than 2 separate individuals. With this in mind, this course explores the concepts of the fourth trimester and lack of preparedness, and how this impacts the mother-infant dyad. We will look at the symbiotic relationships between the mother and the infant, and examine the positive effects of skin to skin (including its relationship with breastfeeding rates). Â We will briefly overview the biomechanical aspects of breastfeeding and tongue tie.
The theory element of this course will be supported by a practical demonstration on some useful techniques for treating infants presenting with feeding difficulties.

- Exploring the importance of the 4th trimester and the mother-infant dyad (MID)
- Recognising the interactions between MID, infant feeding and maternal depression
- Examining how the mothers experience in pregnancy, birth and post-partum affects the MID and infant feeding

- Breastfeeding and manual therapy
